ORGL-680: Leadership Seminar

(Adrian Popa)

Course Description:

This course and leadership seminar was a culmination of the entire learning process and degree that I embarked out. This class in large part relied on a reflective process that allowed me to think about my own leadership philosophies and what has helped me evolved as a person and as a leader. This course also promoted collaboration between classmates to show how we started as leaders entering this class, to how we have used our current leadership skills, and ultimately how we plan to continue to apply our leadership learning with continued growth in mind. This course had a significant portion of independent study and reflection on the course taken up to this point and focused on a project that was a culmination of the skills and leadership traits that we have learned thus far. I chose to focus on my involvement coaching at a local university and how I have been able to use my leadership skills in my coaching for the athletes in their respective events, but also in their character growth in how they approach their goals on and off the track and how they will be able to use their athletic endeavors toward their own personal leadership. This gave me a chance to pass along skills that I had learned and make sure that they had tangible skills that they would be able to use beyond their athletic competitions and into their careers. Ultimately, this course provided a reflective purpose on how we can continue to take our classroom learning with us and continue to grow as leaders with our leadership philosophies in mind.

Course Artifact:

I've decided to include my reflective paper that outlines the processes of where I started as a leader and how I've been able to grow as a person and as a leader. This course allowed me to open up many doors in my own leadership philosophies, including the ideas of servant leadership, forgiveness, restorative justice, proper communication, and how to approach organizational relationships. This paper details the beginning and the continued process in my leadership journey.

ATTACHMENT: Reflective Paper

"The best leaders are clear. They continually light the way, and in the process, let each person know that what they do makes a difference. The best test as a leader is: Do those served grow as persons; do they become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become leaders?"
