DISCUSSION 1: Goals
(Referencing ORGL-500, ORGL-501, & ORGL-680)
The first discussion consisted of an introduction to speak on goals. I started by ending practice and having each athlete speak on the expectations that I had for each of them and ideas behind helping them think about their goals. I ended the discussions with a look at motivations and goals, so that they could think about their own motivations and why they have decided to dedicate their time and effort to track and field and what they planned to get out of their experience. I showed each of them a motivational speaker video by Eric Thomas, and made sure they all remained quiet during the video so that they could understand the meaning behind setting their goals. I had each of them think about their own values and what/who motivated them to pursue their goals. Leaving the first discussion, I wanted each of them to reflect on their goals and motivations, so I gave each of the athletes a ‘homework’ assignment. I had each of them take some time to think about these main ideas:

1. Referenced from the video, "What's your Why?" (What's your motivation and why do you do what you do?)

2. How did you choose your goals?

3. Who/What is important in your personal life and on the track in regards to your goals?

4. What do you want to accomplish with your goals this year and how will that help you grow as a person?

I had each of them respond to these ideas in writing so that they weren’t simply thinking about them, but actually wrote down what they hoped to accomplish and realized why it was important to each of them. It was highly successful and I received 100% participation rate in written responses. Below is the video that I showed each of the athletes:
