ORGL-500: Organizational Leadership
(Aaron McMurray)
Course Description:
This was a very interesting introductory course for me, as it gave me an opportunity to learn the principles of Organizational Leadership and learn about how Organizational Leadership would be a big part of my development as a leader. This class allowed me to think about what leadership meant to me, as well as how leadership evolved for me throughout my introduction to the entire program of Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga. Along the way, I learned from the themes of: “What don’t I want as a leader?”, “What do I want as a leader?”, “What is required of me to be a leader?”, and “How will I lead?”. These were important thoughts, because it allowed me to collaborate with fellow classmates learning how Organizational Leadership would be important in the workplace as well as in personal development. I learned about how to self-reflect on my own leadership and gain insight on how I could apply this with others around me in the workplace and in my own leadership. Ultimately, I was able to learn about what makes effective leadership and what causes dysfunctional leadership through shared experiences with others via discussion, writing papers via self-reflection, and through questioning the different ideals that make up Organizational Leadership.
Course Artifact:
I’ve supplemented this with the paper I wrote for Module One of this class, which looks into the ideas of organizational dysfunction, the diagnosis and implementation of change, and the positive and negatives of how organizational change can be implemented.

"The best leaders are clear. They continually light the way, and in the process, let each person know that what they do makes a difference. The best test as a leader is: Do those served grow as persons; do they become healthier, wiser, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become leaders?"
Robert K. Greenleaf
